Hadi Teherani Architects’ Atmosphere spa and wellness retreat, part of the Krallerhof complex in Leogang, Austria, embodies a poetic dialogue between architecture and landscape. Its sweeping split-roof structure, extending over 100 meters, seamlessly merges with the alpine terrain, minimizing visual disruption while enhancing the site’s natural beauty. At the heart of the design lies a 5,500 m² natural lake, anchoring the composition with a linear swimming pool extending into the water, blurring the boundary between built form and nature.
An underground corridor, punctuated by a circular sunken courtyard, connects the spa to the main hotel, fostering both spatial fluidity and moments of natural illumination. The split-level floor plan, sheltered beneath the continuous curved roof, enhances the spatial experience through subtle height variations, with expansive glazing dissolving the threshold between interior and exterior.
The ground floor accommodates a series of wellness spaces, including a 21-meter-long Finnish sauna with a fully glazed façade, while the upper-level hosts relaxation lounges oriented toward the valley’s breathtaking panorama. Unifying the interiors, a CNC-milled wooden lamella ceiling, spanning 175 meters, accentuates the fluidity of the architecture, guiding the eye along its sculptural contours.
Materiality honors regional craftsmanship and sustainability, featuring locally sourced wood, glass, and alpine marble. The result is a sanctuary where architectural elegance and nature exist in perfect symbiosis.
